Formed in November 2005, by Michael E. Imasua;
the
purpose of this organization is to
Promote solidarity among all
students of Miami Dade College generally, and in particular, among
students of African descent. Represent the specific concerns of
students of African descent in matters that affect them at Miami
Dade College, promote their welfare and align with other student
groups with similar concerns. Enable all students to share the
cultural wealth of the African continent and the Africa Diaspora and
encourage the spirit of multiculturalism within all Miami Dade
College Campuses at large. Create a forum where members can
debate, analyze and engage with each other on contemporary social,
political and cultural issues within or affecting Africa, the
African Diaspora or African derivative populations wherever they are
found. Assist or facilitate interested
members who wish to travel or study abroad in Africa, the Caribbean
or wherever African populations are found. Raise awareness and to arouse
interest in the history, societies and cultures of Africa, the
African Diaspora, greater Miami and within Miami Dade College.
We strive to increase
awareness in terms of whom we are and what role Africa can play in
the global community and the Miami Dade College.
It is our intent to create and nurture a global view of African
people and a connection to African people and the issues that affect
them wherever they are found in the world. In addition, we hope to
give voice to issues and concerns that impact our local populations
and build partnerships with other human groups who experience these
same issues and concerns. |
Our
mission is to facilitate a broad understanding among the
community of the history, societies and cultures of the
African world and to offer constructive analysis of
global issues as it affects Africa and the Diaspora in
the Caribbean and Latin America. |

The
Pan African Students' Association was started in the North Campus of Miami
Dade College in the fall of 2005 on November 7th by Michael E. Imasua All
the students involved in this organization are doing their best to make the
African culture known in Miami Dade College. They all have something they
achieved, although it was not an easy task. Thanks to our advisors (Dr.
Morris Johnson, Professor Michael Leneghan, Dr. April Burris, Prof Joseph Mc Nair, Ms. Wanda
Curtiss, and Dr. Minca Davis-Brantley) for what they have done for making the
association what it is today. The strength of this organization has really
grown since their involvement. |

The
purpose of this organization is to serve as a resource on all issues related
to Africa. We are striving to increase awareness in terms of whom we are and
what role Africa can play in the global community and the Miami Dade
College. We also endeavor to assist newly arrived African students and also
international students so as to ensure their experiences of their first days
within the college are as comfortable as possible.
Our Vision is to become
one of the most active student organizations both within and outside the
Miami Dade College.
I share with you the
dreams of PASA by conducting periodic meetings for members and providing
lectures, workshops, seminars and forums for the entire academic and civic
community. African-focused global town meetings, film festivals, creative
and performing arts programs, culinary and cultural events, library-based
media showcase exhibits, perhaps linking up on special occasions with AFRICANDO, the Greater Miami Subcommittee on Africa and African delegations
through the Miami Council for International Visitors. Perhaps eventually an
annual recognition event for outstanding role models and contributors to
awareness, immersion and delineation of Africa.
